Poetry should… by Patrick, Pegah, Maresa, Caroline and Anne

16 Mar

Poetry should dream with us.
Poetry should be an octopus
it should crash the waves
and purr.
Poetry should clean its face and comb its hair,
curl up in your lap,
even if you smell of dog.
Poetry should turn down an OBE
in disgust at The British Empire,
but say thank you.
Poetry should say good morning to the man who sleeps under the bridge.
Poetry should dream with us.
It should be in the public toilets
and stop at traffic lights.
Poetry should be carrots in a stew,
take the time to look for the lost pencil.
Poetry should be Patrick
and hold our hand when we walk away.
Poetry should subtitle our life.
