Wolf Whistles; by Matthew, Stephen, Laura and Jeren.

17 Mar

Poetry should be dribbling outside the touchlines,
roll blue tack between its fingers
and catch you before you step
off the curb.

Poetry should be a lip liner loaded shotgun
loaded to the face
practiced on friends first
before being sold in supermarkets, and advertised on QVC.

Poetry should copy other peoples homework
but not the kids from top set
Sell photocopies for a quid in the playground
never charging the kids from the estate

Poetry should sit cross-legged
on the luggage carousel
or forgotten on a bar stool
eavesdropping

Poetry should be the dinner lady
who dishes out extra portions
Poetry should me late night radio DJ
leaving just enough dead air

Poetry should be a breakdance
at the opera
singing through the siren
and the the silence in a dugout

Weyy. Whatever.
Poetry should be a cheeky wink
In terminal disease and in wealth
Never forgetting to roll down the window

And wolf whistle at the fitties.

Really enjoyed writing and performing this, I hope the others don’t mind the title I chose, I figured it deserved more that “Poetry Should…” Feel free to edit!

Are you guys going to do anything with this piece. I really enjoyed it and the performance and would love to see it again at least just to create a promo video. What do you think?
