Recent Works

19 Dec

Two poems that I wrote in respective workshops recently, and kinda liked, so thought I’d share 🙂

Angel Eyes:

Angel eyes

Burrowed into the sockets that they themselves had dug

Grey hair grown under a miner’s cap

A lid once sealing a juvenile thug

People told him they were to be his best days

That short-lived age before digging began

Those excavations of romance, cancer, and war

Went inside a boy, and came out a man

Gaunt cheeks atop a worker’s shirt

Where are those life time tales now told?

Perhaps up in heaven, far above the ground

As they search for hope anew, and glory old

Mollusk Shell Secrets – The Re-Write:

I was once, as a kid, with a girl out at sea

And when her legs felt the ‘warm water’, I didn’t tell her it was me

But the waves knew of my secret, as they had felt it too

And smelt it, embraced it, and carried it from you

A teacher once taught me that the ocean waves know all

Dwarfs everything with it’s wisdom; creatures great and small

See, everyone knows about the time I tripped on a mollusk shell

Sometimes we say more about ourselves, by what we never tell
