A Poem for Djanogly

20 Jan

A little poem for the first part of our journey at Djanogly…

Poetry Intervention

The shelves of Djanogly library

are lined with books about celebrities

and in between them we debate about Kanye

and play games with specificity.

Where emotions are objects and objects are people

we tell stories of cat hairs and fingerprints on mirrors

and “have you heard of Eid miss

‘cause we don’t have Christmas”.

That’s when I realise they teach me just as much

and nothing can replace their excited, eager looks.

There’s backs turned for shyness and rosy cheeks for love.

Headphones for sadness and feedback on the bus.

Inside the goldfish bowl

where pride is the final goal

there’s fun and laughter and squeals of glee

all wrapped up in poetry.
